ESL Tutoring for International students
ESL Tutoring for International students
Double Star works to develop a personal and business relationship with the various students and families. The tutoring sessions take place either at the Lansdale office, the students host home, or remotely. The company is committed to providing services at locations that best accommodate the student’s schedule.
All international students are sponsored by their parents, who come from middle-class families. The families are able to support their children in the economic and social costs/issues of studying in a foreign country. Most of these students need extra tutoring support.
International students benefit most from private tutoring given the differences in academic requirements and teaching styles between China and the United States. International students must be comfortable in integrated learning situations, as they will be required to participate in class. International students must become accustomed to reading more literature and history in English–much of which will be linguistically and culturally new to them. A good tutor is essential for international students to make the necessary adjustments and achieve success. Tutors, therefore, offer ESL and subject-based support.
Tutoring resources include materials based on the courses offered at the students’ school. Students are provided with study strategies to help them focus their personal study time, provide opportunities for increasing fluency, and preparing exams. This individualized approach is holistic; it provides students with effective tools for a wide range of problem solving and study skills.
Students are encouraged to review exam results to see where they still have room for improvement. Due to the increase in testing nationally in public schools, teachers are spending more time teaching to the exam. Review of exams is, therefore, helpful in grasping concepts needed on future work and evaluations, as well as charting progress in the course.
Students are encouraged to do additional preparation. They should take an active part in the learning process by identifying questions and items for discussion. Students are encouraged to touch base with the tutor throughout the week. Written questions are submitted and answered via email. While this takes up time for the tutors and is not directly billed out, it is a value added service for all clients.
